Widths measured from actual chairs. Serena and Milano have the same overall and seat widths in their manual and electric versions. Allow additional space for reclining and movement.
Choose a chair for the way you sit
Try the seat depth, arm height and back support together. You should be able to reach the controls, change position and return the chair upright comfortably. If more than one adult will use the chair, each person should try it.
Plan for the whole movement
Measure the space for the chair upright and fully reclined, including the backrest, footrest and moving base. Leave a clear walking route and check the delivery path through doors and corners. For an electric chair, plan the power connection so the lead stays clear of moving parts.

Nursery chair questions
What is the difference between manual and electric recline?
Manual recline uses a hand-operated release; electric recline uses powered controls. Try the adjustment and return to upright. Electric recline does not mean the gentle back-and-forth motion is powered.
Are Serena Manual and Serena Electric the same chair?
Both measure 79 cm overall and 56 cm across the seat. Serena Electric adds powered recline, a timber base and USB-A/USB-C charging. Serena Manual uses manual recline and a non-timber base.

Buying guide
Serena Milano and Douce nursery chair buying guide
Choose the recline control first, then test how the seat fits you and how the chair moves in your room. Serena and Milano each offer manual and electric versions. Douce offers electric recline. The fabric choice is straightforward: Teddy for Serena, ribbed corduroy for Milano and woven upholstery for Douce.

Start with the controls you will use every day
A showroom test should include the full sequence: sit down, find the control, recline, bring the chair upright and stand up. Take your time with the last two steps. The position of the release or buttons and the effort needed to close the footrest can matter as much as the feel of the cushion.
For manual recline, check that you can reach and operate the release without twisting awkwardly. For electric recline, try the button positions and adjustment while seated. Look at where the power lead will run in your room and follow the supplied electrical setup instructions.
Try the swivel (turning) and gentle back-and-forth motion separately from recline. These are separate functions. Electric recline does not mean the back-and-forth motion is powered. Movement can vary with the chair position, so ask for a demonstration of the exact model.
Check sitting fit before judging the size
Measured on actual chairs, Serena is 79 cm wide overall with a 56 cm seat; Milano is 100 cm overall with a 77 cm seat; Douce Electric is 97 cm overall with a 59 cm seat. The Serena and Milano widths apply to both manual and electric versions.
Serena has the narrowest overall width of these three families, while Milano has the widest measured seat. Compare seat depth, arm height and back support too. Width alone does not establish the fully reclined footprint or the most comfortable fit for you.
Sit with your back comfortably supported and check whether your feet can rest comfortably in the upright position. Notice whether the front edge presses behind your knees. Rest your forearms on the arms and check that your shoulders feel relaxed. If you plan to use a feeding cushion, consider the space it will need around your elbows.
Try the included cushions in different positions and ask another regular user to repeat the same test. Comfort is personal, so a model name, photo or single width measurement cannot settle the choice for everyone.
Measure the room and the route in
Sketch the chair position alongside the cot, storage and doorway. Mark out the upright width and depth on the floor, then check the fully reclined footprint and required clearance for the exact model. Leave space for the footrest, backrest, swivel and gentle back-and-forth motion.
Keep a usable walking route when the chair is open. Check nearby drawers and doors too: a chair may fit against a wall but still obstruct something you need to use. Keep children and pets clear of the moving mechanism and follow the supplied instructions.
For delivery, measure narrow doorways, hallways, stairs and turns. Ask the team about the packaged size and delivery access before ordering. An upright chair measurement alone does not tell you whether the carton will pass through the route.
Compare the fabric and finish
Look closely at the fabric texture and colour-specific images, then view a sample or display chair where available. Lighting and screens can change how a colour appears. Check the care instructions for the exact upholstery before choosing a cleaning product or assuming a cover can be removed.
Serena Electric and Serena Manual have Teddy upholstery and a lumbar cushion. Compare the bases as well as the controls: the electric version has a timber base; the manual version has a non-timber base. Serena Electric also includes USB-A and USB-C charging.
Milano Electric and Milano Manual have ribbed corduroy upholstery, with head and lumbar cushions. Try the cushions where you would use them and compare the powered controls with the manual release.
Douce Electric pairs a woven finish with electric recline and a USB charging port. Try its seat and arm position alongside your other shortlisted chairs rather than deciding from the upholstery alone.
Make the showroom visit useful
Contact our Dandenong showroom before travelling to confirm which exact models and fabrics are on display. Baby Direct is at 178 Princes Highway, Dandenong VIC 3175. Call 03 8751 8008 to check display availability and current opening hours.
Bring your room measurements and a few photos showing the intended chair position and access route. During the visit:
- Try upright sitting, recline and the return to upright on each shortlisted model.
- Check your arm support and reach to the controls, and let each regular user try the seat.
- Ask for the exact fully reclined dimensions and clearance requirements.
- Confirm the model, colour, included items and delivery access requirements before ordering.
Before placing your order
Recheck the selected colour and whether it is available now or on preorder. If timing matters, ask the team for a confirmed dispatch estimate for that variant. Review the delivery and returns information linked on the product page, and check that the chair you add to your basket is the manual or electric version you tested.
Questions to settle before you choose
Which model should I choose for a smaller room?
Serena has the narrowest measured overall width here at 79 cm, compared with 97 cm for Douce Electric and 100 cm for Milano. Confirm fully reclined dimensions and movement clearance before deciding, and keep a walking route clear.
Do I need an electric model?
Choose the control that feels comfortable to operate through the full reclining and return sequence. An electric model also needs a suitable power connection. If you prefer manual operation, compare Serena Manual and Milano Manual in person where display models are available.
What should I ask about charging?
Check the port type and device compatibility on the exact model. Serena Electric lists USB-A and USB-C; Douce Electric lists a USB charging port. Follow the supplied instructions for use.

Comparing Rever Bebe and iL Tutto nursery chairs?
Compare the exact model, rather than choosing by brand alone. Try the seat depth, arm support, back height and return-to-upright control, then measure the fully reclined footprint and required clearance.
Rever Bebe offers Serena and Milano in manual and electric versions, plus the Douce electric recliner. Check the chosen model for its movement, fabric and charging features. For any iL Tutto alternative, use that model’s current specifications and instructions to make the same comparison.
